William Montgomery McGovern
William McGovern (1897-1964) was a real life Indiana Jones.
He seemed born for adventure. When he was in his early
teens, his mother took him to see the Mexican revolution. In
his late teens he studied Buddhism at a monastery in Japan.
When there, he visited his mother who was studying the
aborigine people of Formosa (present day Taiwan).

In 1923 McGovern was the first American to reach the forbidden city of Lhasa.

McGovernor was a popular professor at Northwestern University. Students were drawn to his classes filled with stories of his adventures and challenging questions.
In 1925 McGovern set out to explore the Amazon reserve and Inca ruins. When he had not been heard from for months, the New York Times reported that the famous explorer was missing and believed dead.
